
Changde is situated in the northwestern part of Hunan province, adjacent to Dongting Lake on the east, accessible to Changsha city on the south, bordering Guizhou province and Chongqing Municipality on the west and Hubei province on the north. It is called in history " the vital passage to Guizhou and Sichuan, and the gateway to Yunnan and Guizhou". It is 150 kilometers away from Changsha, the capital city of Hunan province, and 160 kilometers away from Zhangjiajie, the world famous scenic spot. The city spreads on a relatively complicated terrain. With a network of rivers and lakes as well as a fertile land, the city is rich in a variety of agricultural products. Changde lies in the subtropical temperate zone of the North Hemisphere, with a typical continental monsoon climate.
